Richie Havens live videos you will notice that his technique is quite unique
and requires a long thumb.
First you'll have to tune to open D then you are be ready to go. All major
minor shapes are the same

play the bass note by itself.

A7sus4add9: barre the seventh fret with your thumb and barre the fifth fret
