The bass drives the harmony much of the time,
either staying on D as chords shift over it
(first 1/2 verse, 3/4 of chorus, all of
the bridge) or tumbling down the scale that
ends the chorus.
Not a lot of guitar evident on the track, but
a proper Spectoresque production presumably has
a few strumming away in there somewhere. The key
of D lets you do half-barres to follow the slash
chords where the bass stays on the tonic.
